MY LIFE
has diminished
to the bed on which I lie
to the cacti
you bought for my birthday
to the dinner table
where you sliced bread
I MISS YOU
when I sit for dinner
and your portrait
stares at me
when I talk to God
Before sleep
a humorous story of yours
the chuckle In your voice
when I hear a dog barking
in the park
when I see
lightening and you say
did you see that
when you wake up and tell me
your Arabian Nights dream
when I come home and we
say hi to each other
even in our dark moments
I liked hearing your key in the door
our door
LONGING
“Go to the limits of your longing”
Rilke
I go to the full extent of my longing
To a point
Where I cannot go any further
A point of trembling
I long to go beyond that point
And see you as transparent as a
Great Song
PASSING BY
Before midnight
You say I am going to bed
And I say me too
We wash
And wear our bed clothes
Under blankets
I talk to God
And you listen to BBC
Interrupting my prayers
With news
Small hours of the night
Small secrets divulged
Without hesitation
DEATH
Through the window
A swirl of wind was so strong
It broke a branch
Of the avocado plant
It hit you
Striking your left arm and leg
Your vocal cords
Your heart
While I sat by your side
Watching you perish slowly
You seemed obedient to the call
Of death
SADNESS
My sadness is greater than me
Before sleep it turns
Rock-hard
Warding off any thought
Of comfort
It dwells
Below my chest
Quickening my breath
Don’t be frightened by sadness
Said the great poet
Let it stir you
Bring you closer to yourself
BEYOND REACH
When anxious
My chest aching
My head buzzing
I would tell you what it’s about
You said it’s about nothing
The man
Who made my worries vanish
Vanishes
Rachel, you should publish your beautiful poetry.
Oh my goodness, the years of sharing are reflected in your poetry
You write with feeling heart soul simplicity
So sorry for your loss
