After wondering whether I’m too old to acquire my first tattoo, I visited a shop called Permanent Ink and asked the resident tattoo artist if he could inscribe the Yiddish word “doykayt” on my upper arm.
Well said! Here in Kansas City, we have a new Jewish congregation called Doykayt - focused on queer inclusion and anti-Zionist Judaism. It has been sustaining.
Eretz Yisrael is the homeland of Hebrews for thousands of years. Although most were forced into diaspora, there were always a presence of a few; the population increased before and after the Holocaust and terrible mistakes were made since then. Starting with the pogroms carried out by the resident Arab population, the sale of land to Hebrews by non-resident Arabs, the 1947-8 war initiated by Arab nations and resident Arabs, the creation of refugee camps for the defeated Arabs and appropriation of their properties followed by the expulsion of Jews/Hebrews from regional Arab nations, the continued guerrilla warfare by Arab/Palestinian fighters to the present Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Iranian conflict with a now ultra-religious, right-wing Israeli government supported by a largely right-wing population which includes descendants of Jews/Hebrews forced out of Arab nations like Ben Gvir (Iraq). And, then, finally, Gaza; initiated by Hamas, dedicated to the destruction of Israel and willing to "martyr" 60,000 or more of Gazans
The aforesaid is not an endorsement of Israel's murderous response to the October massacre. I would have had Israel absorb the loss, do what it could to get the hostages home, ensure that it can't happen again and work on a two state solution. It seems to me that is the only possible solution to the horrible state of affairs that this history has created.

Tattoos are among the lowest forms of self expression, comparable to passing wind or spitting. They get even uglier with age. Don't get one.
Heart to heart, beautifully put!
