A good friend of mine who is 72 recently told me that she’s recently been filled with regret about this and that. I tried to console her by talking her through her accomplishments, but finally I said: Dear friend, at our age there’s no time for this. Regrets are for the young and middle-aged, who might still do something about them. For us there are roses to sniff, and paths not to stumble on.
There's something slightly dischronologeous here. Larry, you're over 65 now. What do you mean you'll have to wait decades to collect full Social Security? Or was this written 20 years ago?
Lawrence - thanks for this combination of wisdom and humor! I regret many things I have written over the. years (that email! that FB post! that snarky Haiku!) and regret many more that I have not (that Letter to the Editor! That novel...). Thanks for a piece that resonated. Shabbat Shalom.
Lawrence, I absolutely love this piece. I regret not having any way to apologize to those I said hurtful things to over the years. I tried to contact them through mutual friends. when I searched for some of them on FB many others with the same name and different faces stared back at me.no way of locating any of them so I started with a few family members who had no idea what I might have said to them that was hurtful. phew! I think it was Maya Angelou who said, I may not remember the things you shared with me, but I will and do remember how you made me feel and how well you treated me.- Doug e.
