Many of us knew and loved Vivian Silver, from the Jewish Student Movement in New York in the early seventies. She moved to Israel, and happily lived in Kibbutz Berri for many years. Her close friend Samah Salaime, a Palestinian activist, write this beautiful tribute in Hebrew.
People who decapitate babies and burn whole families are not militants. Hamas has made it clear in their own words that they don’t care how many Gazans are ‘sacrificed’ for ‘liberation,’ a misused term for religious supremacy and violence toward gay people, women, Gazan peace activists and any political opposition. Hamas has also announced that they have zero responsibility for the lives of Gazans. Thus they keep most of the food, water and fuel for themselves. I know the writer is aware of these things, but the ‘murder’ of Gazan innocents is shared by the Hamas death cult. My sister-in-law was just with Vivian on October 4th for Women Wage Peace meeting along with other women’s organizations for peace. It’s all beyond tragic. Israel’s toxic government was asleep at the wheel as they focused their ignorance and violence on the West Bank. And Hamas (and its key supporter Iran) could not stand to see that same toxic government NOT murder protesting Israelis after 40+ weeks of peaceful mass anti-government rallies. Hamas and Iran murder peaceful protesters and understood how inspiring the Israeli example might be. Hamas Charter is a direct legacy of the Nazi-Arab League alliance of the 1930’s and WWII era. Postwar oil mania and Cold War rivalry made this alliance an “inconvenient truth” and was ignored. But the 1988 charter is chock full of Nazi principles and a promise to kill Jews worldwide. If this is not faced directly, not sure how we get to full peace. Hamas (and its supporters) are as much a scourge to Palestinians as they are to Israelis. Salaam / Shalom
Thank you. I am so full of grief and struggling to know how to carry and honor it and at the same time keep lifting my voice somehow to those I know and love and to those I do not know who have the power to transform to the good the ways this powerful nation is responding to the slaughter in Palestine/Israel

My heart hurts as I read this. It brings the horror home very forcefully.
