Jim's idea was helpful for those waiting anxiously for news of how those surgeries went. But what goes on in the actual recovery room and in the days and weeks of rehab afterwards among those who've just undergone their surgery? A veteran of 3 such surgeries, I found community in rehab, but none of the connections I made there lasted longer than one greeting card exchange. Re-entry into one's old world takes up so much energy it leaves little for forming new ties. But perhaps someone else has had a different experience? I'd like to hear about that. I still think about some of my hospital/rehab foxhole buddies, wondering how they're doing yet unable to remember their names. (I should have kept a diary.)
